the perfect opportunity for an experiential hiking day in Alghero

This hike is the perfect amusement park for young and old alike, as the trail winds its way around the lake, with no bumps or gradients, calmly and as slowly as possible, to try and surprise some birds without frightening them. Lake Baratz, as well as being the only natural lake on the island, is an important IBA (Important Bird Area) and very popular for bird watching.

During the tour of the lake, if we are lucky, we will be able to observe among other species the freshwater tortoise (Emys orbicularis), the coot (Fulica atra) and the mallard (Anas platyrhynchos).

The flora that can be observed around the lake is typical of the Mediterranean maquis and therefore cannot miss the strawberry tree, phillyrea, cistus, rosemary, myrtle, lavender, as well as numerous species of wild orchids.

There are many spots by the lake where you can stop to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of this jewel set between the sea and the sands. It will also be a nice opportunity to taste a platter of flavours from our land, while I tell you something about the history of this lake.

It is said, for example, that there was once a town here, now disappeared, probably hidden under the dunes that surround and block the lake's outlet to the sea, an important town about which very interesting stories are told. But I can't tell you anything here, for that we need the lake and the chopping board....
